If 'fair fight' means I get to use a stiletto and the person above me doesn't, then sure.

Be careful what you wish for. I've become so conditioned to using a British accent that I'll sometimes unintentionally intertwine my normal speaking voice with a bit of a British accent.

General / Re: Does anyone else here have an accent?
« on: April 21, 2013, 09:54 am »
My accent isn't really thick enough to immediately put it in a category, but I guess you could say that there is a tinge of American in my accent.

Because why spend your time doing other things when you can dress up in a chroma key suit and toss Eggos at hockey players?

The problem is, I would be worrying about overestimating myself if I claim that I am smart and underestimate myself. Conversely, I would be naturally inclined to be concerned about underestimating myself if I claimed that I was dumb and overestimate myself. In both cases, my outlook upon myself, whether overestimating of underestimating, in all probability, would contradict my claim. The psychological implication of your asking this question creates a natural tendency to answer the question with only partial, or lack of, truth.

Problem is, some people ACTUALLY BELIEVE the govournment caused 9/11. It's so stupid.
Far more than 'some'. The percentage of people in America that doubt the official 9/11 reports varies between 30-70%. If you have that many people believing in a conspiracy, then there's probably a rational argument behind it.

Is this the part where we ask why you ask?

There's a myriad of possibilities as to why your mother could have a cranky attitude. Problems at work, perhaps, or some other stress-related dilemma in general.

actually, they probably did, but why would anyone bother to trace it. Any amount of radiation, no matter how small, has the potential to result in mutations or cancers. There is no safe level of radiation, there is only the normal. A spike in the normal, however slight, would be caused everywhere, increasing the chances of unfortunate effects of radiation.

Don't get into this fight with me, guys. I just got an A* in my nuclear physics test, so you know...
You do understand that we are constantly under exposure to radiation, right? Visible light is radiation. Infrared light is radiation. I'm not going to go so far as to say that being out in the sun for a couple hours or using a remote control is going to give me leukemia. There are levels of radiation that are safe and even beneficial. Gamma rays from an A-bomb are nowhere near biologically safe. However, even then, the amount of radiation that reaches you goes down exponentially as the radiation passes through material. Just a one-inch thick lead plate can absorb half of all incoming gamma rays. Two inches of lead can stop three fourths of incoming gamma rays, four inches can stop seven eighths of all incoming gamma rays, etc. This absorbing of radiation is something that should probably have been discussed in your nuclear physics class under the name of 'absorbed dose'. If you do the math, 12000 miles of air will absorb quite a lot of gamma rays, even if it's air.

You do realize that Facebook is the second most popular website in the world, just after Google, right? The only way Facebook is going to turn into a graveyard is if someone makes an absolutely awesome social media website that everyone will flock to in a matter of years (sort of like how everyone turned their backs on myspace when they found Facebook). And there are quite a few social media websites that have been unable to do this; Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, reddit etc. have all failed to achieve Facebook's level of popularity.(though they are still very popular). With Facebook where it's at, I'd expect them to last at least another ten years.

General / Re: Pro or anti Execution for crimes?
« on: April 08, 2013, 11:09 pm »
Pro. There will always be crimes that deserve an execution. If the victim (or the victim's family if the victim is dead) forgives, then great, jail time and a hefty fine will do. Otherwise...

I'm the exact opposite. I prefer to not tell everyone about my personal life if I don't need to.

Ketchup and Worchestershire sauce are the only sauces I'd consider putting in my burger. I hate pretty much every other sauce.

I think it's pretty plain obvious that no one is going to admit up front that they endorse racism...

EDIT: Never mind, thought you were talking about the other guy.

General / Re: North Korea are launching their missiles

Fallout from Chernobyl reached Britain quite easily. From a nuclear missile, the entire Earth would be exposed to some extra radiation, as, in terms of half lives, it will never reach zero. Let's say that the radiation level at the epicentre is 1,000,000, and the half life is long enough for it to travel 100 miles. After 100 miles, there would be a radiation count of 500,000, after 200 250,000, 300 125,000, and so on. Even though it wil reach a low number, it will never fully deplete, though it could reach normal background levels
In other words, radiation levels decrease exponentially as you go farther from the epicenter. After you go a certain distance, the radiation level is far too low to do much harm to a person. When Hiroshima and Nagasaki were A-bombed, the radiation technically did spread around the world, and even reached the very opposite side of the world. But no one in America died from exposure to radiation that could be traced to the atom bombs dropped in Japan.

General / Re: North Korea are launching their missiles

Unless you're an angry little North Korean midget.
No, the North Korean military is smart enough to not initiate nuclear warfare. Again, it's a Mexican standoff. If NK tries to nuke a country, it will find itself pummeled by the nukes of another country. Unless NK can nuke every single enemy country simultaneously, (which of course they can't) they are not going to win.

General / Re: North Korea are launching their missiles
« on: April 04, 2013, 09:34 am »
Media hype at its best. It's just like the Cuban missile crisis, they likely won't launch it. Nuclear warfare is an international Mexican standoff, no one wants to initiate it. XD

... Yes, yes you are.
But one more thread like this and I'll vomit an anchor.
I don't often quote keep, but I have to make an exception here.
