General / Main site down: Data Center Issue

Evidently there's a power outage at the datacenter so that's why MS is down. No ETA on when it's coming up again.

Hi all!

I've gotten some reports of things on Sploder no longer working. I'm trying my best to deal with them but I have limited time and energy these days. The latest with the Retro Arcade games appears to be a Flash bug. Reverting to the previous version of the game "fixed" it although that re-introduces some bugs whose exact details I don't recall.

I also removed the captcha from warned commenters.

Finally, I know about boost auctions and I think Sploderheads is still broken, but I don't know why. It would take a lot of digging and re-acquainting myself with the code.

Who knows how much longer we have, but I'll try my best to keep her spaceworthy ;)

Thanks all!

I can't get the thank list to work. Thanking just increases karma...

So thanks DO kinda work - they raise the Karma but I don't see the list of thankers

If I died I'd come back and haunt you all... but, like, in a positive way... you'd get a warm feeling here and there, or a thumbs-up from an unauthenticated user...

I'd have to agree.

Just FYI I am interested in restoring plugins than enhance interaction, but I am avoiding customization plugins that open the site to security vulnerabilities... it'll be tricky!

It is probably an abandoned plugin... but I may be able ... :fingers-crossed:

I'm happy to see this! Even if is "the way forward" it's good to have a bridge between the past and future. I so hated that void I left...

Geoff, would you be willing to give some MS promotions to members who got their badges but were never added before the ToDo list got deleted?  If so, I can either post them here or the ToDo list itself if you give me permission (I’m Futuremillionare/ Meta KnighT, so I did use to have access to the ToDo list before it was deleted).

There's still a TODO!,136963.msg5065976/topicseen.html#new

Yeah sorry guys. I might be able to restore some users from the last (post forum-pocalypse) backup in August but I don't know if it's worth it. This smaller group may be a more controllable starting point

General / Security Problem and Backend Issues

I'm currently experiencing a security issue with the server that hosts the forums, and it is causing slowness. There will be downtime today so don't be surprised if things stop working.

I am delaying this release for two weeks. Please test when you get a chance, and post any bugs you find.

Forgive me for my opinion, but I don't find it awful to be tricked. The forum has a large lack of serious discussion, we normally get off to tricking people for fun. We do that to everybody, really.

It's fun and game between friends if you know someone, but if you're new it's not, because you don't know if the other person is just kidding around to be friendly or simply trying to make a fool of you.

Geoff, Is this fixed yet?  :)

Is this a new bug or has it always been there?

Ah sorry, my computer is too slow to record a proper video for the swing, but the slow swinging is also occurring in fast games as well. Like in my game Giggity, the sword is swinging about six-eight times slower then it usually does, and the game is pretty much free of lag.

Very odd. I'd think more people would have noticed this. So, you're saying you can only swing the sword once every 4-6 seconds?

I have emptied my cache, and my opinion remains a no. It's a tad bit faster for me, but I don't like how the sword is way slower then it used to be. I love your efforts, and if you could restore the sword speed, then I'd love for this to be released.

I've done some tests and have not noticed a speed change on the sword. All character movements are now locked to the speed of the game itself, whereas before they were set to match your computer's internal timer. So, if the game was running slower, then it may have seemed that the sword was faster because it was running on its own timer.

What exactly is slow? Are you talking about the normal swing or the jump-swing? Are you talking about the swing itself or are you experiencing a pause between swings?

I'd like to release the update for the platformer that will improve speed and stability for larger levels. You can test it now by going to any public platformer game page and adding ?v=11 to the URL.

Clear your browser cache. I fixed that already. :) Thanks for finding the bug.
