General / I'm Gonna Say What We're All Thinking
« on: June 21, 2013, 01:57 am »
Lets preface this by saying that very few to none of you were actually thinking this.

Yeezus is a big letdown except Bound 2. Watching Movies With the Sound Off is at least 50% fantastic. Diplo is easily the worst hip-hop producer to date. 2 Chainz is potentially the worst rapper of all time, right up there with Tyga. Super Mario Bros. 3 isn't actually that good. Link to the Past is easily the most overrated game of all time. Please mail me your loose copies of Earthbound. Video games have probably peaked with the Playstation 2 or in some circles the SNES. Final Fantasy 6 is better than Chrono Trigger. People that own Macs are easily manipulatable. People that do not mail me Earthbound are simply not living life to its fullest extent.

Hi, my name is Ben and I need help from You! Yes, You! Should You have experience or knowledge of hacking game ROMs, specifically those from the GameBoy Advance, then You are the one I'm looking for!

Some of you have probably heard of Mother 3--the third game in the Mother/Earthbound series, my personal favorite series of all time, and unfortunately only released in Japan. Fortunately for me and for You, a dedicated team of translators worked for two years to bring us Mother 3 in stunning English! Stunning!

This game is the perfect archetype for what I'm trying to do. What is it I'm trying to do? I'm going to try to wipe the ROM from a donor GBA cart and put the stunning English ROM of Mother 3 onto it, so I can play Mother 3 on my real life Gameboy Advance SP! (which I don't actually own!)! Of course, I could just buy the EZ Flash IV or whatever and upload the game to SD card which will play, but that's for n00bs and requires no skill. No class.

Obviously I'm going to need some kind of equipment for this, so I'm wondering if any of you guys would know of or how to get said equipment. That's pretty much all I need to know.

I've played Earthbound Zero, and that was...different. But I just beat Earthbound, and I really consider it to be the greatest video game I've ever played. I've downloaded Mother 3 to play next. Any opinions on that?

General / How to Write Good
« on: August 07, 2012, 11:51 pm »
My several years in the word game have learnt me several rules:
1. Avoid Alliteration. Always.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. Avoid cliches like the plague. (They’re old hat.)
4. Employ the vernacular.
5. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
6. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
7. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
8. Contractions aren’t necessary.
9. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
10.One should never generalize.
11. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.”
12. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
13. Don’t be redundant; don’t use more words than necessary; it’s highly superfluous.
14. Profanity sucks.
15. Be more or less specific.
16. Understatement is always best.
17. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
18. One word sentences? Eliminate.
19. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
20. The passive voice is to be avoided.
21. Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
22. Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
23. Who needs rhetorical questions?

And who hasn't been applauded or smitten. Both will change in time, I'm sure--I've been trying to think of an inspirational signature, but with no recent result.

But mark me, readers: my signature will be so inspirational that anyone who reads it will go on to win a Nobel Prize or Pulitzer prize, or even something lame like a Bingo tournament or Tony Award.

General / Happy (Belated) Tau Day!
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:47 am »
As none of ou probably know, yesterday, 6/28, was Tau Day. What is tau, you may ask? Tau, the Greek letter 't', represents the ratio between a circle's radius and circumference. In other words,

Tau = 2(pi) = 6.28...

As most of you probably know, pi is the ratio between a circle's diameter and circumference. But because the radius is the defining characteristic of a circle rather than the diameter, tau is the true constant that should be used instead of pi.
(note that tau is not commercially recognized and is nerd-endorsed only. please support the integration of tau)

The Bin & Board Archives / Mainsite Moderator Recruitment [MSM]
« on: December 21, 2011, 05:41 pm »
Welcome, one and all, to the Mainsite Moderator (MSM) Recruitment Center! Ran by yours truly, co-owned by superluigi77 and moolatycoon.

Before you apply, it would do you well to familiarize yourself with a mod's powers, by reading this thread. You also must read the rules before applying.

How Will I Become a MSM?

By coming to this thread, you obviously want to become a moderator. You will have to pass several steps in the process, which are as follows:
1. Post your application in this thread
2. Get vouched via a thank you by a recruiter
3. Go through voting in the Barracks
4. Get over 3 total votes
5. Complete the test
Your results on the test will dictate if you are added as a full moderator, junior moderator, or if you're denied.

How Do I Apply?

Unlike the prior recruitment, there are guidelines to your application, rather than only having me tell you to tell me why you should be a mod. It is relatively simple and won't take up too much of your time. Please format it with the numbers included, it will make our jobs much easier. IMPORTANT: you must have been on the forums for two months before applying. Also take note that only privates+ can apply; no grunts or outcasts are allowed. ALSO IMPORTANT: If you are deinied, be it your application or through voting, you must wait one week until applying again.
1. Your username
2. How long you have been on the forums; how long you have been on the mainsite
3. Tell me what an MSM's job is in 1-3 sentences
4. Tell me why I should vouch for you

Now that you know how to apply, you need to know the rules.
1. Post your application once. You don't need to post it again on the new page, we will see it.
2. Don't ask for us to look at your application. Again, we will see it without you bothering us.
3. Don't simply ask to be a MSM. You must fill out the application or it won't be valid.
4. No grunts- are allowed.
5. No off-topic (OT) posting.
6. Any questions are to be whispered to me or one of the co-owners.
7. Don't try to enforce the rules yourself. If someone does something against the rules, I will handle it; your comments are not needed.
(new) 8. Do not post your application multiple times. Even if the page has changed, one of the recruiters will see your application.
(new) 9. If you are not vouched, assume you are denied. Once again, if you have questions on why you were banned, PM me.
Failure to comply by these rules once will result in a warning, twice in a one-week ban, and another week for every other violation.

List of Recruiters

There is currently no need for more recruiters
A note to the recruiters: when accepting applicants, don't just consider their application; look for potential as well. If I or the co-owners are not satisfied with your job, I am not afraid to take you off the list.
