It's not a hard game enemy wise but I do ask that you have moderate skill, there are a few things I want to make sure actually work and one bug I want to know if other users get.

So if anyone could help, that would be nice

So basically you post in this thread and people will suggest you to watch an anime solely based on your username.

I am Spell, so maybe something like "Magi" would be a good choice.

General / Just started watching Re:Zero

And I will add my thoughts to each episode as it goes on. Starting off with of course Episode 1A - and if I see any spoilers in this thread i'm deleting it so please don't be a splode.

Episode 1A - There were a bit of tropes added in to this anime (as to be expected though) and when the world was first revealed I felt a very large SAO impression (and I don't like SAO) but the world as of now seems to be different than that of SAO so that is a good thing. I find Subaru to be kinda likeable but also a bit annoying and the chick to be too cliche for my taste so far. Also not a big fan of the magic or spiritual animal business but I tend to not like fantasy animes. I can see potential in this anime and will keep yall updated on my thoughts. Also the soundtrack is pretty good so far.

Episode 1B - I like the direction the anime is taking here, nothing really noteworthy and so far everything is good. I do like the soundtrack a lot.

Episode 2 - Kinda lame episode compared to the first two. Reinhardt was another cliche character to add to the list.

Episode 3 - Oh well it looks like the OP OP of Elsa was taken over by the OP OP of Reinhard. So far the show is pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Most of the characters are pretty bland as of yet and the plot hasn't moved forward.

Episode 4 (Currently Watching) - Roswaal looks a lot like Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter. I've noticed that every ending in an episode is a cliff hanger - nothing much really happened this episode apart from expositories so the episode was kinda mediocre. Also going for the butler job was about as cliche as it can get.

Episode 5- Liking the beginning so far, but after the first minute it reverts back to butler mode. I really hope this is leading somewhere because this Arc in the anime is not that good.

Episode 6 - I liked this episode the most so far out of this butler arc, clear symbolism in the fairy tale towards Rem and Ram although i'm not sure if that fairy tale actually exists. We all know who the witch story is about lol (Emilia or Sutano or whatever her original name was). That rope trick was quite convenient for him to use though. Also where does this kid get any of his power he is supposed to be a neet? And I was thinking his murderer was either Rem or Ram so I got that going for me.

Episode 7 - This is probably the best episode so far, nothing special like the fairy tale symbolism but something to advance the plot. Plus Roswaal definitely gives me the Hisoka vibe when he is ready for combat. Ending was pretty lame though

Episode 8 - Not sure what exactly was revealed this episode, i'm conflicted on what Elise's actions and words meant. Not sure if she knows? But that could explain how she seems to be extremely warmed up to him even though in "reality" they have only known each other for a couple days.

Episode 9 - I thought the hinting towards Rem? being a demon was foreshadowed throughout the earlier episodes. Don't really know if that is accepted or not in the culture of that world. Also Madoka Magika did the going crazy and fighting better:

Episode 10 - It was a mediocre episode, too focused on the fighting which it has so far done a mediocre job with. This show should definitely focus on the mystery it provides.

Episode 11 - Backstory for Rem and Ram for half the episode - nothing really amazing there imo. Second half of the episode was just a typical coming to heart moment.

Episode 12 - It was alright, I enjoy the new characters added in. I expected Felt to have been disposed of and not become the 5th candidate.

This is like halfway through the show and while I think it is a good anime so far it hasn't blown me out of the water. Hopefully it will in the second half

Episode 13 - Oh god those speeches they give are so bad. And the main character Sabuto was being an outright idiot but I believe that was planned. Also, why does he think he can win any fight what-so-ever? I do think the voice acting is good and Subaru delivers again in this episode.

Episode 14 - Pretty okay episode, builds on the Rem and Sabuto relationship and then collectively takes a dump on it. Only good part was the ending

Episode 15 - Starts off strong, hope we can keep this vibe throughout the rest of the episode and show. And now Sabuto is potato mode which is alright for now. Hopefully they don't drag that on forever. Fight scene was cool as well as some of the imagery in this episode. And now we are going towards the 7 sins route so that's cool, I am not sure I want this show to go this route but we will see if they pull it off. Sloth is a cool character but he doesn't match his name. Overall this is the best episode we have had so far. And the ending was done incredibly well.

Episode 16 - Alright episode, I like how they are writing that purple haired princess character.

Episode 17 - I'm liking the direction the show is going now, and Subaru is definitely sounding a little insane now. The art design is alright and the imagery is there, I am really into those dark clouds and hands that come out whenever Subaru is trying to bust out his secret. I also think that sloth is hinting that in order to be successful you have to do the opposite of your name. Not to mention that Puck is papa Elise.

Episode 18 - Start of the episode and Sloth gets destroyed as well as Puck hinting at JUST how strong the witch was. Turns out that the white whale is gluttony so now we know 3 of the sins. A lot of cool imagery in the beginning of the episode and the soundtrack is rocking. This is a pretty good episode all around. I definitely see more of a connection with rem and subaru than I ever saw with Emilia and this episode was the one that really threw it out there. But the end of the episode was the most splodeed thing i've ever seen in my entire life, went from liking him to not liking him. Could have definitely rolled with the real relationship there.

Episode 19 - Nothing much happened here, just them planning to fight the white whale. Pretty boring episode.

Episode 20 - Just a giant whale fight, pretty mediocre

Episode 21 - Whale fight over, thought it would never end. I wish they hired someone who would be able to make it more interesting (but maybe it's just me). I can't wait to see the archbishop v I believe Wilhelm fight coming up. That one should be good, also hope to see that elsa chick from the beginning again.

Episode 22 - So it turns out Juli, Felix, one of those mages and like 30 people are helping out Saburo in this fight. They should probably easily take it, turns out we also got wilhelm or whatever his name is - my only problem is that he reminds me a lot of king bradley with both his looks and his fighting style. The fight was pretty underwhelming but of course it didn't end there and I didn't expect it to with the introduction of his fingers. Also i'm pretty sure it is implied that Wilhelm is Pride.

Episode 23 -  A lot of mediocre battling but a pretty cool ending with Subaru's body being taken over.

Episode 24 - Definitely ran the program better the second time around, the battles were still pretty mediocre in this episode.

Episode 25 - More fighting, Sloth is a lot stronger and the season ended on a boring note. Not happy with the last episode.

Reasons For:

Reasons Against:

"The game is a good game and I believe it is better than most games on Sploder, however, the entire game relies on a game mechanic that, even though it has been used to its fullest potential, doesn't provide enough entertainment to me for me to see it as qualifying for the EGL"

" Where this game falters is that I don't see it as a game I'll remember in one years time or more. Its concept is pretty good, but compare it to a game like Doppelganger and it's not really much. Sure, it introduces a new gimmick but it's not crazy good. Just because something is new doesn't mean that it's EGL worthy, it has to go above and beyond and stand out from the rest of the games on the featured page and do well in all departments. For me this game did things right, but that did not make it an epic game. None of the levels made my jaw drop and go "wow", not like games like Black Widow (amazing puzzles, basically started a new genre of platformer games) and Opprobrium (ingenious level design and well crafted puzzles). Yes, the idea is new, but not all new ideas get voted in to the EGL.

Complaints on the actual gameplay would be that occasionally it would be more heavily focused on execution rather than analysing the sequence (where you had to drop down without touching the lava) and the beginning levels felt dull (1 and 2 really weren't great in comparison to later levels).

Good game, not EGL worthy"

I need to know good placement of items to limit health in both creators. The nitro in shooters and the barrels in plat both seem to be inconsistent damage dealers for the way I place them. Does anyone have a certain placement that can guarantee that sliver of health?

For the shooter I need to limit the player to one bullet of health and for the plat it needs to be a quarter of health or less

Have fun!  :;):

Here are the lyrics, so it is easier for you guys:

Chillin' with a hair tie,
No makeup, with some sweatpants on
You know I can always be that guy
You can think about me all night long

But I think you need something to think of me
Something that will keep you warm
And show you we can be more than just this
So, baby, if you are not ready for my kiss

Then you can wear my sweatshirt
And you can tell your friends
We'll be together 'til the end
Girl, you can wear my sweatshirt
'Cause you're the only one I hold
And I don't want you to be cold
So, baby, wear my...

When you go to sleep at night,
When you wake up in the morning
And when you walk the halls
See, girl, you know you wanna flaunt it

Said this may be the start of something new
Girl, I'm gonna tell you exactly what I wanna do... more than just this
So, baby, if you are not ready for my kiss

Then you can wear my sweatshirt
And you can tell your friends
We'll be together 'til the end
Girl, you can wear my sweatshirt
'Cause you're the only one I hold
And I don't want you to be cold
So, baby, wear my

And you can wear my sweatshirt
And I don't want you to be cold
So you can wear my...

So you can wear my sweatshirt

And I don't want you to be cold

Game Discussion / Best story in a game on sploder
« on: September 08, 2016, 10:19 PM »
I want to know what you guys think is the best story in a game on sploder. If you post one of yours try and see if you can find one of someone else's.

Game link:

So here is how the voting works:

1) Initial voting will take place in Game Discussion. In this voting, ANYONE can vote for the game. Please state whether you think this is EGL worthy by your standards (keeping in mind that the EGL is obviously supposed to hold those games that stand out amongst a majority of games) and explain why (in detail, don't just say because it is epic haha). I recommend that you AT LEAST get through half of the game before placing your vote, though beating it is obviously what you should strive for prior to voting. It would also help if you do vote, you should probably say what level you got in the game.

2) Once this voting is complete, I will make another thread in game discussion labeled "official voting". I will place all of the members that are eligible to vote in this thread, and will send a private message to the members as well to try and make the voting process go by a little quicker. This is where actual voting will take place. The "pre-voting" thread by everyone can be used as a reference and to see how other members who can not vote feel about the game.

3) Votes are counted and if the game gets in (since Geoff doesn't update anything anymore), I'll acknowledge this on the forum and congratulate them in a game on the Sploder account and feature it temporarily so it doesn't take away from featured games views so much.

So go ahead and vote for Don't Take Another Step when you're ready. If you have a game you want to suggest for EGL, I would recommend placing this in Game Discussion and not in threads like these. My goal with this is to get everyone involved in some way with EGL voting.

Game Discussion / Official EGL Voting for Mario's Revenge

This is the official voting thread for Mario's Revenge which can be played here:

Current vote count: 2 - 6

Reasons For:

"The implementation of 2.5D into a platformer game is really cool. The graphics are probably the best I've seen. It's fun."

"The game is aesthetically beautiful, kinda funny, and shows above average gameplay"

"Despite being recycled from Bobbler's previous entries, the visual style paired with the different gameplay styles showcased in Mario's Revenge are good enough to offset the lack of revolutionary sequences and juvenile story line."

Reasons Against:

"The fact that it's a continuation of a non-Sploder franchise rather than any attempt at creating a world. On that note, the jarring contrast between characters designed to appeal to kids and the decidedly more adult conflict. The recycling of many sequences from Bobbler's previous games. Without the graphics this would be a terrible game and that's fine, actually sort of the point, but Undead contributed more to this than Bobbler imo."

"Gameplay tends to run derivative of his older games, enemy placement in parts seems very sloppy, and platforming sections tend to be spread too far apart."

"Although the scenery is amazing, the gameplay is lackluster a lot of the time. Take the minecart and robot suit part for example on level 3. The only really good parts about those are the graphics. The actual gameplay for that though is something I'd expect from someone who's just starting to get the hang of making a game. Minus the graphics, those parts are very basic and it feels like literally any member could've done the exact same thing. The game is also a bit of a pain to restart. Although it doesn't last extraordinarily long, I wish I could at least skip the "Breaking News" part at level 1 because it does start to get annoying after a few visits. Not everything in the game has to be game-breaking (EGL games don't even necessarily have to be revolutionary), but the game should try to be as epic as much as it can and it should introduce why its epic early into the game. There might be something I'm missing since I didn't complete the game, but you shouldn't introduce your supposedly "epic" gameplay material near the end of the game. The visuals themselves are definitely on point for EGL, but visuals are just one piece of the EGL cake and in the case of this game, it's the only slice that seems fully baked (pardon the terrible analogy)."

"A lot of gameplay sequences are fairly sub par compared to his other games. They simply aren't as creative and feel kind of dry for a normal sploder game, especially the level with the minecart/powersuit, that has arguably bland design. I can accept that recycling puzzles by putting a simple little twist on them is CERTAINLY OK (I liked how he used the ninja shuriken puzzle with the bowser head, adds a simple yet effective element in the game) however there were just a lack of those well thought out sequences.

The aesthetics is AMAZING but the gameplay does not match it... at all... and for me to vote yes I think both of those have to match each other."

"Though I personally wish this game was more original in the story department (come-on mario and sonic?), I will say that this game is well put together for what it is. The graphics as have been mentioned are great for replicating the world of mario. The gameplay is decent as well, I enjoyed the jumping puzzle with the color code on level two because if you did mess up you wouldn't die and would be given another chance. Enemy placement isn't always the best and there were areas where you expect to die but just fall through the game (one example is level two if you fall off the moving platform into lava graphic you don't die) personally I think a good game should be designed to have no areas where that can happen, leaving you in the awkward have to reload the webpage situation.

The game is enjoyable, pleasing to the eyes, and creative for throwing that 2.5D appeal, however I think that there things that could be improved on as well.

My vote is going to be a no, mostly because I could have seen this game to be quite more enjoyable as an original idea, not playing off of some well known game. Let's be honest, how drawn to this game would you have been would you have  without those graphics."

"While the game was fun to play and the graphics and scenery were amazing, a lot of sequences used have been used in bobbler's previous games and weren't very well thought in my opinion. It was a fun game to play but not EGL worthy."

because it's basically sonic saves mario 2.0. I've seen most sequences before in his other games. It's not as original as his other games. It's not bad but not egl-worthy

Game Discussion / The Criterion Collection of Sploder
« on: July 27, 2016, 09:26 PM »
What is this?
You can think of this as the Epic Game Library of games that don't HAVE to revolutionize gameplay, but rather accomplish one or more of the following criteria:

  • Builds an amazing atmosphere
  • Has an amazing story
  • Is a piece of art

This means that a relatively large portion of the Epic Game Library actually doesn't even come close to fitting in the Criterion Collection of Sploder.

How does a game enter the list?

I will be actively looking for games to put in the collection, you can also suggest games in the comment section of this thread, I will be the sole judge of the content added to this list unless it becomes popular enough to where the community wants to vote in games.

Why do you think this needs to be made?

I disagree with a good portion of the games entered into the EGL, I don't think that they should be entered, and a lot of games I do think should be in the EGL are not and will never be added because they do not exhibit revolutionary gameplay or mind-bending puzzles. This is strictly a list for the pieces of art on this website, and if I had a choice, this list is what I would want the EGL to look like.

What happens if a game gets added?

Once a game is added, it will receive a few things listed below:

  • A review with no score
  • A Criterion Collection-like poster

Of course, the poster will take a bit to make so expect a few weeks between each finished poster. Also I am looking for help on them.
