General / Who are your idols
« on: June 11, 2018, 03:03 PM »
Musicians: Kanye West (work ethic, ways of handling and embracing mental issues), HKE (work ethic), SGP (personality and relatability), lil B (personality and humor)

irl: Chi Chan (work ethic, empathetic/understanding nature, personality), Zion (ability to take anything that's thrown his way and make something positive out of it, personality)

Famous: Norm MacDonald (personality), Chris O'Neill (Love his work ethic and talents, also very funny but not a big fan of his personality), PsychicPebbles (Same reasons for Chris, yet I'm fond of his personality too.), Stan Lee (Not a big fan of his work but his legacy is commendable)

[Very sure I'm missing many people here]

Sploder members: Konnichiha (Everything), Ben (Personality), Joji (Intelligence, Personality), Liamnight (His approach towards the more negative side to life and where it's gotten him), Spellmage (Personality, Assertive), Jayk (Work Ethic, Tolerance, Personality, Level-Headedness), Peanut (Personality x10, Work Ethic)

If you aren't there, it doesn't mean I don't like you- these are just people that I look up to and model myself after for personal improvement. Similarly, if you are there yet I didn't list a trait that I did for someone else, I'm not implying a lack of said trait. Rather, I have only been exposed to or understand someone else's usage of it more clearly. This applies to those in non-sploder categories, and while this seems unnecessary in retrospect I'd like to ensure I don't hurt anyone because you're all really great and have something to offer.

I'm blown away. Went to see Godspeed you black emperor live today, wasn't actually planning on it after this weekend but somehow I still ended up seeing them. Started off by recording some of their hope drone which is what they usually open live shows with, but I put away the phone when they began the song after that, Mladic. I realized that this was something I needed to experience right now. No need to lower the overall quality of the experience with an attempt to make record of some barely recognizable memories. This was for me to experience with my natural senses. The sounds and the bass vibrating through every inch of my body, the sheer complexity of the instrumentation being experienced live and that latter half of Mladic can only be described as powerful.

Post rock makes you think, which is why it's been my preferred soundtrack to life as of late. Every day to and from the hospital I spent it listening to Godspeed save for a few occasional Death Grips jam sessions, but all of this time spent with GYBE really brought the music up to a personal level for me. Hearing it live, loud as possible, with every aspect of the composition encapsulating me in this invisible tsunami of sound really did something to me.

I mentioned I wasn't even planning on going. I did have the tickets, but not the willpower. Woke up this morning and realized just how important this could be to me, thank God I had that epiphany just in time. I also mentioned that post rock makes you think. The lack of vocals and the droning that lasts for many minutes gives you a lot of pondering time, and I used it to the fullest extent tonight.

The closer, Sleep, a tie for my favorite song ever next to Mladic, sealed the deal for all of the feelings I have felt. It was as if I had reached the climax in my story. In my mind, nobody else was on the concert floor with me. I was at the very front objectively, but in my mind I was the only one listening. This music meant so much to me, and it sounded to me a way it sounded to nobody else. I'm in awe. Peaked, if I were to define it. Whatever were to happen after this no longer matters, because to me I've experienced everything I would ever need to by seeing Godspeed You Black Emperor play live tonight.

Thank you.

Blindly believing videogame creepypastas and hoping that one day I'd stumble upon a cursed Pokemon game. Goes hand in hand with not knowing how games were made and thus not knowing what to expect, made things so much more enjoyable.

Records / Essential Sploder Threads
« on: February 27, 2018, 02:37 PM »
Here you'll find the definitive posts on this forum, the ones that should be burned into your memory and the ones that will aid splodeologists many years into the future when books are written about this website. These threads have been curated by the users and managers of this board, and this list will frequently see updates. Boards that aren't view-able to other users may have threads archived here, and their titles may be obscured if necessary.

All threads will be categorized by their reason for importance. Suggest categories in PMs.

If you believe a thread that belongs here is missing, PM Sticki to have it added.

Oldest Surviving Threads

During the time of Vanilla (January 2007 - December 2007, February 2008 - July 2012), threads that weren't stickied would get deleted. Because of this, we have lost thousands of threads. Although, plenty of threads from early-mid 2012 have survived. Here, we will archive the oldest threads we know of. Be sure to PM a Records mod if we're missing anything!

General / VGM that makes you feel nostalgic?
« on: January 11, 2018, 09:43 PM »
Videogame music is beginning to have well deserved attention as standalone listening pieces, especially since so many record companies have began working with big names like SEGA to press classic VGM soundtrack onto vinyl, but we all likely played games as kids since we're all on this website, and while we may have our favorites there's always those one or two songs that vividly paint a picture of the past in your mind when listening to them. Care to share? Here are mine:

4. Space Harrier theme
3. Hang-On Theme
2. Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons - Song of Storms

1. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Fountain Theme

As a kid, I was lucky enough to live near an Arcade owned by a passionate game enthusiast who housed some classic games, two of them being Space Harrier and Hang-On. While I don't remember playing them all too much, I always heard their themes in different sections of the arcade where they sat.

As for the Legend of Zelda games, my first ever console was a Gameboy Color with Oracle of Seasons, and the Song of Storms theme on that game captivated me. I upgraded to a GBA with the Link to the Past SNES port and I remember crying while listening to the Fairy Fountain theme.

EDIT: Nearly forgot about my all-time favorite flash game's OST.
