Penguin Patrol
By:  Mat7772

I was searching for a game to review when this game popped out of me.  The name was very catchy, so I thought I would play it, and I enjoyed it, so I decided that I would review this game.

I liked Mat7772's style.  The game stayed on a very important theme: penguins.  Not only was it penguins, but it was the mother penguins trying to get to their babies.  He kept it very challenging and he was very creative.  There wasn't much of a background, though.  All that was on the screen was what you interacted with and a white background.  Maybe that was all he needed!

He was very creative.  I would have never thought of a game like this.  It is a kind of game that I would find on CoolMath, created by an adult, in my opinion.  Basically, you have to steer the mother penguins to get to their babies of the same color while avoiding the water.  Also, you are moving all of the mother penguins at the same time, which makes it very challenging, and I thought it was very creative.

The main thing that made it so challenging is that you are moving all of the mother penguins at the same time.  It added a little twist inside.  Also, you can't steer the blue penguin to the red baby; otherwise, you're dead.  Each level got harder and harder, which made it even more challenging.  On the challenge rating of the game on the mainsite, it was rated a 10/10, and it didn't lie!

Organization and Placement
The game was very organized.  The specific placed that Mat7772 put things changed the game, such as where he put pools of water or where he put the baby penguins.  He did great by  placing them so well that each level got harder and harder, as I said before.  I just think that the magnets weren't really placed exactly right in the earlier levels, but it was okay.

I thought this game was very entertaining.  Usually on games like this, I get very frustrated and give up, but I just kept clicking the retry button until I completed each level.  This game just left me hanging and I just HAD to pass this level, and I HAD to pass the next one, until I had been playing the game for who knows how long, but it did kind of aggravate me a lot anyway, so I almost quit, but I was so close to finishing, I kept playing, anyway.

Overall, this game was pretty good!  Mat7772 did very good, but I can tell that he could have done a little better.  There's always room for improvement, right?

Describe the member above you with one number.  A number may oddly actually come to mind, it can be their age, a random number, or any other reason why you come up with a number.  If you're still blank you can put N/A or something or don't post at all.  Have fun and be funny!   ;)

By: pluton

Now, before I begin, I am going to estimate (guess) what the game score will be before I start to examine the game.

I'm guessing a score of about 8-9/10.

I was looking for all kinds of games, any game at all that was review-worthy.  I wanted to submit another game review application as soon as I could so that it could be judged soon. I had no idea what game to review and was beginning to get tired of looking when I decided to review an old game that I had played before and had enjoyed.  The first one that I had found was "Portal", by pluton.

This game had an excellent theme.  It didn't all of the sudden change and grow confusing. It stayed along the same story line and all, the theme was perfect for what the game was about.

Now what was that theme?  Well, at least I interpreted that it took place in a special testing room in a science lab.  You played as Experiment Number 5913 and you were being tested for your smarts.  It carried all throughout this game.  Some games have all kinds of different themes bouncing all around their game, which only makes it more confusing, and who needs that?

This game was very creative and original.  I have never seen a game like it before.  Its originality showed all throughout the game, not just in one area.  This game was created before the graphics creator was available, so it was harder to make things.  That problem sure didn't stand in the way of pluton!  He was very creative with what he had.

Organization and Placement
Everything seemed to be pretty much in the right place, except for the elevators.  It took me a little bit longer than I think pluton intended to be able to get onto the elevators.  If he had placed them where they went slightly below the floor, I would have had a better chance of rolling onto the platform with my square little wheels.  The rest of the placing seemed perfect to me.

This game had a great challenge.  It took a little thinking.  It didn't take headache-thinking, but just a little focus and repeating this question in your head: "If I shot here, would it benefit me here?"  But, you still had to think a little fast in a couple of levels, because things were shooting at you and you couldn't let them hurt you bad enough that you couldn't complete the level.

Also, I don't know if this was intended to be a problem, but having square wheels instead of round ones kind of slowed me down a little while I was playing the game.  It added a little more challenge, but the game was still possible.

If Sploder had game categories, I would call this game a puzzle game, or at least a strategy one.  The challenge in this game made you think, and it was kind of like a puzzle, and you had to use strategy, but not so much skill, so I wouldn't really call it a skill game.

The thing is, if I can win the game, it isn't very hard at all.  I did have to start the level over a few times, though.

I personally enjoyed this game.  More times than when I don't, I usually give up on games like this in the middle because I can't really figure it all out.  Besides, I usually have a game in progress to make instead of playing more games that I can't win anyway...but this game, I completed, and enjoyed, which I don't very often.

I know that many more people enjoyed this game, too, looking at the comments.  I think they were so excited to type out their comment, they forgot to spell all of the words right!

Style/Theme - 10/10
Creativeness - 10/10
Organization and Placement - 9/10
Challenge - 7/10
Entertainment - 10/10

Total: 9.2/10

Okay, so I planned this really early so everybody has plenty of time to make their games.

Love.  Your game has to either be all about love, have some kind of romance in it, or mention Valentine's Day in any way.

Penalty:  If your game doesn't match the description above, it is -1 star on your star score.

So, the rules are simple, too.  As always.

Your game has to be based on love in some kind of way.  (See pink)
It must be submitted before the contest deadline.  (See red)
You must either state the name of the game in the comments or a link.  (see blue)
Blah blah blah no profanity yeah yeah you get the deal.  You do, right?

Okay, this has been a minor problem.  People have been saying that they have a game ready or they are working on it and they never tell me the name or give me a link.  The consequences?  Your game isn't judged.

Your game will be rated in stars.  (1-5)  You don't usually get to know your score, but you can request it if you would like to know it.

I think of the stars like this:
1 star - Hated it
2 stars - Didn't like it
3 stars - Liked it
4 stars - Really liked it
5 stars - Loved it

First Place - Gold Award
Second Place - Silver Award
Third Place - Bronze Award

*I would prefer it if you added a description to your game because that helps a lot!  ;D*

Contest Deadline:
Thursday February 14, 2013
Moved to Wednesday February 20, 2013

PLEASE submit your games by this deadline.  Otherwise your game will not be judged.

« on: December 21, 2012, 11:06 am »
I have terrible karma.  I don't even know why.  Yeah, I may have made a couple of people mad, but that was because I was playing a forum game, and you are supposed to be honest.  (Describe the member above you with one word)  I believe that is where a few of my smites came from, (I said this guy was annoying a few times) but gosh, I'm really not that bad.  Too bad I can't figure out where all of these came from.

I am a really nice person, honest.  I really am.  Somebody cruel and his team of buddies must be against me for some reason.  Why, I don't know.  Anyhow, I would like maybe some suggestions on how to improve my karma and maybe get a few thanks...sorry, I am asking a lot from you all...but I'm innocent, I promise!

When I played this game for the first time for my 4th game contest, I knew that it was review-worthy, not necessarily for an amazing review.  My award for first place was a review/review application, so when this game won my contest (between only two games, and the other one was about the same in the average score), it was time to write a review.

Normally I only write game reviews/review applications if the game actually jumps out at me.  This game sure was good, but it blended in a little.  Anyhow, I’ll get a little more detailed in that subject later.

For starters, the gameplay was really good.  It was very simple and easy to catch on to.  No glitches whatsoever.  I was pretty surprised not to see a game description, and the level description was the default.  I did catch on, but I didn’t know I was avoiding anything until I got smacked a couple of times.

The game was very simple.  It didn’t use any of the graphics that members can create, but Levelorange011 was very creative with the shapes.  Although he used shapes instead of graphics,if it had had a little bit more, it would be too crowded and complicated to focus on the actual movements.

It isn’t exactly original.  I’ve seen games much like this before.  Yeah, yeah, you try to avoid the falling whatever until the timer stops and you go to a harder level…I’ve played that before…and failed…those kinds of games are not my cup of coffee, pieces of cake, whatever you want to call it.

This game is bumped up another level higher than the level that the games similar to this one that I have played before.  Okay, so I haven’t won any of them, but still, I can tell a good game when I see one.

Does this game stand out?
Nah, not really.  The only reason I played this game was because of my contest.  The name doesn’t stand out, and neither does the scenery, but do you really need to stand out to make a good game?  You can answer that question yourself.  Who knows, if the game is really good enough, it may actually stand out one day.

Gameplay: 8/10
Graphics: 8/10
Creativity: 5/10
Stand Out: 2/10

Scoring Color Code:
10/10-8/10=Awesome! Green
7/10-5/10=Okay...  Orange
4/10-0/10=Not so good...(Maybe you should fix that?)  Red

Total: 5.75/10

It's simple.  You can ask one person, a group of people, or everybody a question, and then they answer it.  I may add a twist later.

General / What is your favorite game maker on Sploder?
« on: November 05, 2012, 05:38 pm »
Here you can vote for your favorite game maker on Sploder!  Are you old-schooled and like a Platformer or Shooter Creator?  Are you someone who likes the new-and-improved game makers like the Physics Puzzle Maker or Algorithm Crew?  No matter what you like, vote here so we all know!   ;)

Basic Training / Have a question? Post it here!

Have any questions?  This is like the FAQ, but anyone can ask and answer the questions!  When I answer the questions, expect really quick answers, because I check the forums almost every day!  Anyway, I know most answers, but I occasionally don't, so that's when each other comes in handy!  So, ask 'em up!!!

Reviewer Lane / Help! :(
« on: November 02, 2012, 05:48 pm »
My application has been in the Reviewer Applications for over 2 weeks now, and I haven't gotten a reply.  I've been bumping my review over and over.  Will anyone ever tell me if it was accepted or not?  Do I go ahead and make one?  Also, if it does get denied, do I post my new review 2 weeks from when I posted my previous one, or 2 weeks from when it was denied?

Game Contest!
Sign up here in the comments, Instant Message me, or post a comment on my page on the main site to sign up!

Hello!  I will be hosting another game contest!  This time I decided to do it a little different.  Normally, I only tell about it on the main site, but now that I am in the forums, maybe I can get more than 3 games to judge, because I have 3 awards, and if I only had 3 games to judge, then all 3 games would get an award!

Anyway, I will explain:
In my game contest, you can enter a game from any creator you'd like, but keep in mind that I prefer the games that are either "Physics Puzzle Maker" or "Platformer Creator".  I will still judge other games, but I am not as good at those games.

The games will mostly be judged on enjoyment.  I don't judge spelling and grammar unless I have no idea what you are saying.  Please write a description.  I won't count off if you don't, but I want to know what is going on in your game.

I know, you are anxious to learn what the awards are!  Okay, here they are:

First Place:  Gold award and a game review/review application (I am not a Reviewer yet, but I'm still trying.)
Second Place:  Silver award and a nomination/contest vote on your game
Third Place:  Bronze award

I have a "Sara50840s Contest Hall of Fame Game" game where I always list my contest winners.  The top 3 winners will be listed there, and on this thread after the contest ends.

I am so sorry, but if your game is a contest winner, (Sploder contest, not another member's game contest) you cannot submit your game.

Contest Deadline:
Monday, November 5th
Deadline moved to Friday, November 30th due to not enough entries.

Good luck and have fun!

Basic Training / Hello! I'm kind of new.
« on: October 22, 2012, 05:37 pm »
Hi!  I'm not new to Sploder, but I'm sort of new to the forums.  I've been in the forums for a month or two now and I realized that I never introduced myself.  So...hello!  I am Sara50840!  I have been on Sploder for over 3 years and I kind of "just discovered" the forums.  And... I am trying to apply for a Reviewer, so read my latest application:  "Wild Wipeout"!  (It is reviewing a game about the show Wipeout if you haven't figured that out, yet.)  So anyway, I have introduced myself, and if you have any tips, suggestions, random things to tell me, etc...feel free to reply!

General / Random!
« on: October 15, 2012, 05:29 pm »
Here you can write random things and stories (1 sentence to infinity! <---Please don't write that much, I'm begging you!) for others to read.  They can be corny, they can be riddles, jokes, stories, etc.!  They can be awkward sentences, phrases, fragments, paragraphs, etc.!  You can type anything random here!  Do you have something random on your mind and you really just want to post it, come here!  (Also, come here for a big laugh!  ;))
I think you get the point!  Have fun!

Wipeout Sploder Version
By: snowyman99

Most of us have probably seen the show Wipeout.  A few of us haven’t, and that is fine and okay.  I personally love Wipeout and this game just popped out at me.

The game was great; I enjoyed it.  But, a thought crossed my mind: I just saw my first Wipeout show just the other day.  (I know, it’s depressing.)  What if someone who didn’t know what Wipeout was played this game?  Would they understand?  Probably not.

Yeah, even if the game was completely described to them, some people still may not understand until they actually see the show.  So, don’t you think “Next is green on the big balls” would sound a little confusing to a newbie?  “What are the big balls?”  “What do I do?”  “How do I use them?”  “What???”  That is probably what would be going through their minds.

This game was really fun.  It had great details and design (more on that later).  But the descriptions were a little short of the prize, right?  I know it may be hard to summarize a whole show in a description of game well enough to understand.  It is hard.  Many game makers hope that their players do understand.  No question about it.

For me, the game was extremely easy.  No, my name isn’t on the top scores board, but that doesn’t mean it was hard.  The only level that was hard was the fans of death, but I flew through that level, too.

I really enjoyed watching the red player fail.  I thought it was very creative and smart.  I’m not the best game maker, and I don’t know how to do that stuff, but I applaud him, anyway.

Identification.  Well, obviously, Wipeout, you know?  Very catchy.  “Hey!  That’s a show!  I love that show!!!  Lemme play!”  If someone showed me this game and didn’t show me the name, oh yeah, I’d know, even if I only saw 2 episodes of Wipeout so far.

Wonderful design.  I knew the water was water.  I knew the mud was mud.  I knew the balls were balls.  I knew the fans were fans.  I saw buildings, I knew they were buildings.  They were very creative.  Like the way you put skeleton faces on the fans of death, etc.  The textures matched the objects.  I liked it, enough said.  I think you understand.

I did see a glitch in the last level.  It’s okay.  Everyone makes mistakes.  Sometimes the games won’t cooperate.  I understand.

If you are reading this, snowyman99, great job!  I have some suggestions, though, if you make another.
Remember how some of the players are nuts?  I don’t know if this is possible, but maybe you can make some exotic characters.  You can even make some graphics of dudes with mustaches and tights, or messed up hair and bowties.  Just mix and match and you have a wild character!
Also, doesn’t the Wipeout Zone have more than one section?  Hmm…I think it does.  You should maybe make it to have at least 2 courses.
How come red got to hold onto the fans of death and I didn’t?  Maybe you should think about that.

Those are a few suggestions.  Anyway, here’s the score:

Understanding for newbies?:
Identification for knowbies (people who have hard of it before/know what it is):
Room for improvement?:

Total Score:

General / Which Came First? The Chicken Or The Egg?
« on: September 21, 2012, 04:06 pm »
A very common question, indeed.  Here, you can write your opinion of this question.  Also, if you have any other versions of this question (such as the plant and the seed), you can post those here, too!  This is a fun way of finding others' opinions and giving each other ideas about what other things that they can ask their friends.  Enjoy!

(My opinion is that the chicken came first.)
(Also, I think the plant came before the seed.)

General / I have a question...
« on: September 14, 2012, 10:38 pm »
I have a question and I don't really know which category to post it in...  Anyway, I was trying to be a reviewer and tried to apply for it, and my first attempt wasn't an actual review.  Then I made an ACTUAL REVIEW and applied to be a reviewer, and this guy said that it was denied because I reapplied within 2 weeks and I couldn't apply again for 4 WEEKS!  I didn't even do an actual review the first time, and both topics have been locked!  I am new at the forums and I am really confused and I want to know some things...  I just hate it when I don't understand things and people are blaming me for everything...  Please don't recommend for me to go to the rules and stuff because they are long and I don't understand... it is as if they are written in Jibberish.  I just want to know a little about what is going on and if what I said above is fair or not.  Sorry for the length and all, I just need information!
