Title: Anyone ever have this?
Post by: YoungCaliman on January 13, 2013, 07:37 am
I went to sleep 3 and a half hours ago feeling fine. I woke up just a bit ago and felt a little chest pain on my right side. I just thought I damaged an intercostal muscle  because I've done this before, but I'm starting to think I somehow fractured a rib or something while I was sleeping, which idk how you would do. I had trouble getting up because the pain was so tight on the inhale. I've been standing and sitting up for about 10 minutes now because it doesn't hurt when I am sitting up. It's still a little tight though. If it was fluid collection or a punctured lung I think the pressure would be getting worse. So anyone have this before? Because I've never popped a rib out or fractured one before.

Sorry man, :/ Get better soon.

I'd say you just slept in a strange way, maybe twisted I don't know. Never had that before.

I think its a muscle pulled that's next to the ribs. I think you'll be OK

That's what I'm thinking too, either that or a rib slipped out, because one of my right ribs seems to be sticking out further than it should. But I just coughed violently and felt no pain, so I think I think I slept wrong. Just never felt a tightness like that before.

Yeah, so you've like twisted in your sleep causing the rib to move and stick out.

I'm no good at anatomy, lol.

Lol normally a rib will only pop out due to trama, so I'm still doubting that. I probably just slept wrong and hyperextended an intercostal muscle which are located between the ribs.

I've gotten stuff similar to this too...where it kinda feels like you have a temporary air bubble inside your chest cavity, but this one just felt a little different.

If it is broken, gently probe it to find out where. If you can't feel a break, it probably isn't, although coughing without pain probably means it isn't. I doubt it's lung related if coughing doesn't hurt. Diaphragm maybe? Could be a blood clot, but I doubt that, because you're young. Could just be a bruise where you've slept on it. It's not an air bubble, because you're still alive.

When I mean air bubble I dont mean a pulmonary embolism or anything like that. It's just what most people describe what it feels like. Usually the cause of that is muscle related. I think I just slept wrong and damaged an intercostal muscle temporarily.

Probably. Could be a trapped nerve, instead, because they happen when you sleep funny.
