General / How do you guys struggle with motivation?
« on: November 15, 2017, 02:48 AM »
Have to give mad props to Joji for giving me some of the most solid advice pertaining to motivation that I've ever heard in my life. I have a very severe lack of motivation and dedication, can't find the willpower to do anything. How do you guys get around these things?

Sploder Podcast Episode 0
Was planned for the weekend, but we wanted to run a test episode before then. Episode one with more participants (hopefully) coming out during the weekend!

General / Coming soon: Vanilla Sploder theme
« on: November 12, 2017, 11:38 PM »
Since something like this is too advanced for me, I won't be making it. Rather, a friend will be helping mostly with this theme, too. He starts work in a few days and development will take a while for everything to be perfect, and stability can't be guaranteed either since it'll be Javascript rather than CSS but it will be done. Expect more information soon, and check out Tegers' recreation of the Vanilla site here which will be used as a reference for the theme creation:

General / Favorite Operating System?
« on: November 12, 2017, 06:50 PM »
Usefulness would go to Linux Mint 18, very bare bones OS with a lot of capabilities.

Preference would go to Win7, Microsoft nailed it

Grand Prize would go to XP, I wish I could incorporate the feeling that OS had onto Win10 which I currently use.

Game Discussion / How are you motivated/inspired to make a game?
« on: November 10, 2017, 08:35 PM »
I keep opening the creators wanting to make a game but give up pretty quickly due to the realization of the time it would take. I cannot get an idea for a good game nor can I motivate myself. How do you do it?

I've gotten into contact with some fine fellows who have sizable numbers on social medias, not going to reveal who but they're interested in what I have to say, so I'm compiling a list of the greatest games (comedy-wise) for him to showcase.

I need suggestions! If they're too vulgar for general, DM me on discord or PM me and I'll add them that way.

Both high quality and low quality games can make it, as long as they can get a laugh out of a large audience.

General / Coming soon: Classic Sploder theme
« on: November 07, 2017, 11:33 PM »

The Header buttons are subject to change since removing the members tab will make it inaccessible across the site. I'm thinking of replacing the contest tab in those screenshots with the members tab and the my games tab with the contest page.

General / Small, insignificant sploder memories you may have?
« on: November 03, 2017, 12:59 AM »
One I vividly remember is meeting these two fellows and taking our rap battles to the big leagues- being vertically filmed YouTube videos where we faced the cameras away from our faces because we were insecure. This was around the time PFR was still a very small group, and we had our own group where we would share these links daily. I had the most utterly incomprehensible lyrics, forgot all about this until I was going through my old channel in 2016 and had to ensure every video was removed for good..  ::-[:

General / Got scammed
« on: November 01, 2017, 09:43 PM »
Out of $120, I bought an NES classic edition off of eBay from a reputable seller, received the console and it was running terribly, the wireless controller I bought with it wouldn't connect and no matter what I tried it refused to hook up to my PC for softmodding. Turns out the guy ran away with my money. This is the one purchase I didn't use PayPal for, too. What a shame.

General / I made a physical CD of the Sploder Soundtrack (LPA)
« on: October 29, 2017, 07:52 PM »
I always wanted to own the entire sploder soundtrackk on CD or vinyl, but with the price of pressing 8 hours worth of vinyls being outrageously expensive, (8 hours of CDs in Jewel cases being less but still costly) I made a DIY 2x jewel case CD for all the songs in the creator made by LPA, who I think is the best out of the six artists.

General / Life cereal death threat
« on: October 28, 2017, 02:54 AM »
Listen up life cereal, we have a problem. I see you, I see your cinnamon flavor. I buy you and I eat you. You taste great so I eat another bowl. Only an hour later do you turn my insides into mush and I'm puking and blowing anal loads at the same time. EVERY TIME I EAT YOU AND EVERY TIME I HAVE EATEN YOU FOR THE PAST 6-7 YEARS THIS HAS HAPPENED. If I ever see you again you're done for.  :>:D:

General / Proof that Geoff is saving the forums
« on: October 25, 2017, 01:44 AM »
On October 21st, the statistics for the forums were the highest they had been since August when people still weren't in school. Geoff is vital to the progression of this forum. Every day afterwards so far has seen more activity than every day of October beforehand. What Geoff is doing and what Liam + everyone else is also doing actually helps, this is good  :8):

Collect data here if you want to:

The staff team is always changing, evolving with the forums and trying new things. This inevitable change has made every couple of years on this forums offer a slightly different experience.

In the coming months, there has been a severe lack of change. It's obvious that the majority of the current staff team is very keen on upholding what we have and disregarding the idea of making new changes. This I can respect, because the old saying "Don't fix what's not broken" makes sense and can be applied to this forum. My issue is that for a forum like this, change is very important to keep the users coming.

Back in 2012-2014, we had a very eccentric staff team, bringing new ideas to the forum constantly and always trying out new things. I only have fond memories of this period, with the Christmas theme that, while broken, was really neat. The many different events and gameshows that we would always have, there was just so much to do back then. I vividly remember my first all-nighter was pulled during a gameshow Matty hosted, and I had a blast. While I never did participate in any of the sploder proms, they were just as fun from the reactions I saw.

Nowadays, the generals are reluctant to make the tiniest changes, whether or not the community wants these changes being irrelevant. A board idea that had gotten many thanks and was obviously a wanted idea was shot down because what we have now apparently can suffice. While I cannot confirm the validity of this statement, I was told by one user that they were told by the generals that their gameshow could not run on for too long or they wouldn't allow it. Keeping everything the way things are is boring and stupid for a forum with such a small community.

Ever since Geoff logged back on, we have seen a ton of change, which can be credited mostly to Liamnight and the spark of hope and interest in the community. Before this happened, the forums were a sad and depressing place to be. I feel much more lively when I log on now than I did a week ago. These forums need new ideas, features and things to do.

Things can and should be done a lot more quickly on this forum. There's no data to collect before a decision is made, and our userbase is very small. I believe that while the lack of inactivity is in large part due to Geoff seldom logging on, this stationary forum can also be blamed in part. Users have left recently because of how boring these forums are now, but back in 2013 that was when the forum peaked.

I hope this isn't interpreted as a hate thread for the staff team. What they do is great, and it's all voluntary. They do everything a staff team should do and they do it damn well, my only wish is that they wouldn't be so extremely against allowing new things to happen on these forums. If it's not going to hurt anyone, then giving it a shot isn't a bad idea.

Basic Training / Advertising sploder: The right way
« on: October 23, 2017, 01:40 AM »
I'm aware of the countless threads that already exist on the subject but the lot of them don't delve into exactly how effective advertising works or are ill-informed on the way good advertising works. I don't want to flatter myself, but the tips I'm gonna go over in this thread helped me achieve over 10k subs on YouTube, grow a friends website to over 50,000 users and grow a discord server to over 4,000 members.

  • [1.] Find a funny and interesting aspect of sploder to advertise. Nobody likes the basic, boring and monotonous part of any website
It's not in plain site, but sploder is a gold mine for funny images and silly meme potential. In this day and age, funny pictures shape what our culture is interested in. Posting sploder-related images to Twitter, reddit, or any other popular site and getting that post popular would create a large boost in curious first-time visits from users who happened to see the name sploder in the picture.
  • [2.] Where to go: the most effective places to advertise
You want to reach a wide audience, but you might not have an established one for yourself. No worries, there's always a way to get your word out there. Sites like reddit, other forums and especially discord servers can bring in new users. Since we are a site where users usually join around the age of 10, you want to advertise on sites where you can reach a younger, more impressionable audience (e.g Roblox, Scratch, r/dankmemes, r/Rickandmorty) [For users worried about a terrible community incoming, remember that the forums are difficult to get into and segregation between the MS and forum will always be a blessing.]

CONNECTIONS: Contacting Internet figures to do the advertising for you
Preface: I've found this to be very effective and the ideal route to go with, but it's a hit or miss with the misses being more likely the more popular the person is. Note that the numbers don't always equate to popularity in the personal contact sense, you'll find people who aren't internet figures and instead operate internet companies/organizations like a top 10 channel are extremely easy to get into contact with.
  • [1.] Piggybacking
If your friend has a large discord server, twitter channel or any other medium that allows someone to get a message out to a large number of people, exploit it. Ask politely and do a little brown-nosing if you have to. Remember that ass-kissing has a sweet spot, where you don't do too much or too little of it. You ever play a Tony Hawk Skateboarding game, and the bar comes up with the sweet spot in the middle and the two red areas on either side?
If you hit the red areas, you wipe out. Don't wipe out.
  • [2.] E-mail is the way to go
Someone who operates anything large on the internet will always have an e-mail they check daily. Fans will usually attempt to contact someone via Twitter, facebook or a YouTube comments section which will more than likely never work due to the sheer amount of comments said person may receive. E-mails not only are forgotten when it comes to trying to contact someone as a fan, but an e-mail allows you to fledge out your thoughts and exaggerate the benefits that comes with advertising sploder. Don't go for e-mail only though, try every medium just to be safe
  • [3.] Suggestions by the numbers
If you truly believe you've found someone that could bring in great users for this site, let us all know and have us all contact said person/organization. Many popular people make an attempt to respond to all comments they receive, but the sheer amount of comments that even a small channel can get are overwhelming. The more there are, the more likely that person is to respond to said comment.

Prepare to be disappointed. Advertising is difficult, and with a site like sploder, getting the users here is the easy part.
Getting them to stay is a lot harder, and requires activity from the existing users to encourage activity of their own.

Good luck.

General / Phase 2
« on: October 21, 2017, 03:39 PM »
Now that Geoff's here we give him a reason to stay by helping out as much as possible. I've been doing it for a long time via advertisements and whatnot, below is one such advertisement I did.

We need to give him a reason to stick around now that he's here.

General / [REVIVE SPLODER] Using violence to bring Geoff back
« on: October 20, 2017, 03:25 PM »
It's been nearly half a decade since Geoff paid a good amount of attention to this site, and we're very close to a complete shutdown. Constantly members are leaving, and just yesterday Sandwich and Rebecca left. They don't do it for attention like others have in the past though, this site sucks and being here sucks.

We've tried so many things to get Geoff back on the site, and they've all failed. There's nothing to do here. Games get 100 views max on the featured page nowadays. Most importantly, there are site breaking exploits that have been known about for nearly a year now, exploits that Geoff doesn't even know about because he seldom checks the To-Do list.

Since we're all nearly done with this site and it's on the brink of extinction, might as well try something risky and fun. Taking over the site and breaking it.

I've recently released a video demonstrating a few exploits Cyan and I found out about. These were all reported to Geoff more than once, but he has done nothing. He doesn't care about the well-being of the site unless it's critical, but what he does care about is money. When the comments server died, he was quick to migrate to a new server. When he realized how insecure the login system was, he fixed that and introduced a very clean and modern login system.

Here's what we do
<a href="" target="_blank" class="new_win"></a>

We use these exploits on alternate accounts (or your main accounts if you have balls) and slow down the servers + break many pages of the site including the members page and the hall of fame.

If you have powers on the Mainsite, you're also welcome to use them to this plan's advantage. If you wanna help, join this discord server:

Once we've done enough damage or the damage takes down the site's servers, we tell Geoff about it.

We aren't looking to be banned, but if it comes to that then it'd be for the greater good. If Geoff is open-minded, I'm sure he'd understand. He isn't a monster. All the damage we can do is easily irreversible, but to prevent this from continuing Geoff would have to inevitably update the site.

Featured MS game as an example.

Violence. This means exploiting his site until he's obligated to bring quick change.

Report this to him lol

General / Top 1 thing that PISSES ME OFF
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:08 PM »

I was trying to do some exploiting of the top all time graphics, but sadly and unfortunately there's a like cap at 65535 likes that I didn't know about, so I'm going to have to redo this completely  :>:D: :>:D:

Also Geoff banned one of my accounts as soon as I began overloading the comments server, how come he has such a quick response time for that but not for anything else important  ::o:
