[Released] Mourning the Computer
« on: July 11, 2020, 05:15 am »
you dying thing, you
dead thing, you
finally stop.

A narrative game about coming to terms with the death of a digital piece of nostalgia. Play it here: http://www.sploder.com/games/members/elroysice/play/mourning-the-computer/

This game features original music. For best effect, I recommend playing it on loop, and either turning the loop off or the full song after completing the poly switch puzzle. Here's the link to the song: https://soundcloud.com/girl_lloyd/mourning-the-computer

If you are interested, you can read the full poem uninterrupted here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yKR-mV0L12G_JIMAOqp7-Wf2gyjhpKXtEdLngs8aCuM/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks! I like to use artbreeder.com for stuff like this whenever I get the chance, and needing artwork to accompany the music on soundcloud gave me the perfect opportunity

You're welcome!

By the way, this is in no offense to you, but I suck at Shooter Games, so don't expect me to play it.

I still have no idea how this game got on my profile (it was in 2017 or 2018 when it happpened)...

Even though Konni offered to remove it, I decided to keep it...even though I've never beaten it and wasn't actually the one who made it. I like it to be there as a reminder of "How the splode did this get here?". Odd, I know, but I do find it interesting that someone had somehow managed to put that game there, and it's something that happened that I don't want to forget.

That's what Bohobes look like.

I totally get it, shooter games are a pain most of the time haha

And wow, that is bizarre... one of the many sploder mysteries that'll remain unsolved, I guess!

Oh ye, I forgot to show u this lol http://forums.sploder.com/index.php/topic,344512.0.html

Thanks!

I collabed with jjs. I was responsible for discovering the glitch and coming up with a lot of the foundational story and gameplay elements, but from what I recall he did a decent chunk of the individual level design and puzzles. Then I was entirely uninvolved with the second one.

Progress update: Turns out I was wrong about the whole "drops tomorrow if at all" thing. For once in my sploder career, I've stayed interested and focused on a small project rather than doing it all in one night and then either finishing it or never returning to it ever again. The game is mostly done, just needs some more balancing & gameplay tweaking as well as some aesthetic upgrades. The core of it is all done, and the writing and music have been done for a bit. I don't know when I'll finish it this week since I've got a busy one ahead of me, but whenever I do get to it, it shouldn't take too long. Expect it soon.

Thanks! Of course I happen to hit my stride on something as inconsequential as a sploder game in 2020, but ah well, I'm having fun. I'm hoping other people get something out of it too once it's done.

Oh whoops, I didn't realize comments were off... fixed that!

Thank you!! I'm glad it resonated, I was really hoping I would get some of those emotions across. And I do make music! I'm still getting to a point where I feel confident recording and releasing stuff, but I do have a lot of ideas and plans to put more music out.

Yeah that's totally fair, I haven't made a shooter in... 8 years, so I'm not shocked the gameplay doesn't hold up.
