Will Sploder survive?
« on: March 17, 2019, 12:00 pm »
We all know about Geoff's carpal tunnel syndrome, preventing him from working efficiently on anything Sploder related.

Still, will he be able to do anything about it? Will we, as a community, be able to preserve the idea of Sploder?

Well, I recently opened the PPG creator in a Flash Emulator. Everything worked fine, except the fact that you can't publish or load any graphics.
The graphics aren't a problem for me, as I am not a person who uses them, I use the default resources of the creator anyway.
This whole thing gave me an idea. If the creators don't get converted into HTML5, that doesn't stop us from creating, sharing and playing games, at least with the PPG creator, as I haven't tested this with other creators. Plus, there is still a way to use graphics, I think - we just need a big repository of graphics - for example - while the creators are still alive, we can put graphics on solid blocks and other objects, such as Baddies, Coins, etc and keep them on loads of levels. We just need to mark every single object from the level, copy its code (with that Clipboard button in the corner) and just load it in the Emulator. Then we can copy objects from these levels and just paste them on the projects we are making in the Emulator. Same applies for the level/game sharing - just share the code of every single level of your game in the forum (well, if the forums are still alive, if they aren't, we can just create a fan-made one but yeah you get the idea), then other people just have to paste them, so they can load them in the Emulator and just play them.
It is extremely primitive, that's for sure, but it's still something, right?

No the website is slowly dying, manage my friends broke, then the boost, then other things. Eventually, the creators could stop, too

The IDEA of Sploder, not the site itself.

When flash dies, I'm guessing that the forum and discord will still survive but not the main site.
The idea will live on

In 492 days sploder dies :(
Will update monthly

After Flash expires, I expect there will be a major drop in activity. But that doesn't necessarily mean Sploder itself will die.

The site itself won't last any longer than 2022 if we're being optimistic. However, I think the idea and community will survive.

I think you summed it all up, honestly.

Blackpilling is bad for you.
Sploder will be fine as long as there are committed members like most of the people here.

Well that's lame, I hope he's not in too much pain. I couldn't agree more with converting the creators and games to HTML5, I'd love Geoff to give someone trustworthy a part of his role to manage the site.

There are people here who have the potential to make some sort of new website for Sploder. I was going to do so myself, but right now I don't have the time. If those people step forward and take action, then yes, because this community will only stay together for so long. People are already leaving now, so if something is to be done, it needs to be in the relatively near future.

In short, potentially.

I did not know. What does "Carpal Syndrome" mean?

Yes, I wanted to help create a new site as well, there's a lot of potential in the ' online level editor ' idea.

Carpal tunnel syndrome basically weakens, pains and numbs the thumb and adjacent fingers, in Geoff's case it could have been caused by repetitive motion.
