Kind of, I would like to make ONLY ONE REAL GAME that has been my dream for years. Aside from it, my life goal is to start a company for smartphones, laptops, etc...

Too ambitious?

I don't have the money for it but I'm very interested in game design. At the moment I just design levels that I never finish...

I use that app too, it's pretty good.

Anyway, have you guys ever used programs such as Unity, Unreal Engine 4, etc. I've been into Game Maker Studio for a long time before I just stopped using it because I didn't understand anything. All I did was editing some already-made projects. But I was younger back then, so I guess it's normal? Now I recently tried Gamer Maker Studio 2. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest ways to actually create a game, and a lot of people agree that it is perfect for beginners - it's easy and you can actually create a really good game unless it's 3D. It helped me understand how programming works even more.

I can't find Game Maker Studio on Steam anymore, at least not a free version.

I have both Unity and UE4 but I've never used them.

It should be on their official website, that's where I downloaded it. I have all three programs, but I currently use Game Maker Studio only.

I used to, but I don't do that sorta thing anymore... I've decided that I should give up on certain dreams of mine, like this old one of: "making games" as a career. Because it ultimately would further damage my health and condition (that's already messed up). Plus, it wouldn't be a reliable source of income, unless I would become one of the lucky ones to get enough income...

But that's a big leap of faith. And I don't see myself willing to risk it anytime soon what so ever...

Yes, I study Games Design in college. It's been my dream since I was about 9 or 10, when I first learnt how to code Roblox Lua, and it's something that looks like it'll be a very likely possibility for me, as well as web development, which I currently do on the side.

I have, I want to apply to be a Nintendo game designer. I know I am not great at game making on Sploder, but I think with the high end technology that they have, I could do well. I also have considered applying to be one of their soundtrack composers.

Definitely, I have designed a few moderately successful games that are on the App Store and Google Play Store currently. I have also showcased my games at a few indie game festivals. I hope to eventually be able to bring in enough revenue from them to make a living.

What games have you made? I’m kinda interested in seeing what you’ve made available on the App Store

This is the game I am most proud of, it costs $1.99 but there is also a lite version.

Nice! I posted some commentary about the game on the sploder discord server.

Anyways, in response to OP:
I wanted to be a game developer when I was younger, but I'm not as creative as I used to be anymore, so I've moved on. Also I've heard that the profession is insanely labor-intensive and stressful, doing tons of crunch time before impending deadlines and the like. So I'd probably only do it if you were extremely passionate about game design. Unless you want to be a indie game designer, in which case I doubt the above sentences apply (although it'd be hard to make a living as an indie developer unless your game goes viral).

You have to be Japanese to apply at Nintendo.

Wow. That's an enlightening sentence...

Look, I'm just being realistic and it isn't just for my own sake... But for your guy's too, I highly doubt any of you will come close to becoming a professional programmer like say.. Some of the ones that work for nintendo. Think you can prove me wrong? More power to you, I didn't say it is entirely impossible... But I just highly doubt it will happen, I've decided to become a realist ever since December about all these things.

I don't doubt your guy's ambition though since I know ambition when I see it.

I was referring more to your strange phrasing. I don't want to be a programmer.

I think everyone has the ability to see ambition, by the way.

If it's something you want to do, keep at it and you can do it. I know that sounds extremely generic, but it's so true. I'm a really slow learner and it took me a good 3 years to comprehend the basics of coding (though I taught myself, so that's probably why it took so long) but I can do it now. :)

I think I already said this but it takes money to even start working on games independently, that's why I can't seriously consider it.

That's not true at all. There are plenty of free softwares out there that you can use to get a head start. If you're looking for a game engine, some of the best options are Unity or Unreal Engine. For art, you can use the free paint.NET program. Audio is something you'd probably get from websites such as freesound.org, at least temporarily.

If that's not what you meant, then what is it that you'd need to spend money on? Because I don't spend anything at all (if we exclude hosting costs, since they won't apply to you).

Actually, the Nintendo of America franchise is in America, so I would not need to travel overseas.

I can pirate software, can't do the same with good hardware. :(

Ah, my bad. I didn't consider the hardware. You could get a basic game development software and work to create a small finished product and sell it for a very small cost. Alternatively, you could make a Kickstarter or Gofundme for your game to be able to afford the hardware. If you show enough enthusiasm, concept art, etc, I'm sure some people would get behind it.

Yes, I could do all of this, I could also apply for positions at larger game studios without spending money. I apologize for being overly cynical earlier, money isn't required to develop games, but it makes it much more convenient.

Especially considering the fact that I prefer designing in 3D space.

I prefer to design in a 3D environment too, however if you haven't released anything yet I'd highly recommend getting one project out there that's 2D, both for experience and to generate a little revenue. Of course, you don't have to do any of this stuff if you don't want to, it's just something I'd recommend, and something I am likely to do myself. Once I finish college next year, I'll have to start paying for my own stuff, all the time, so that little income would do me good.

Adding on to that, I want to be self-employed rather than working at a company. I think it's much easier and I can play by my own rules. :P
