Hello sploder members. Transcendent here with another review. Hope ya like it.
Introduction
If you didn’t read the title, can’t understand humor, or a just confused in all aspects, I am reviewing SplitScreen by Splatter. You must be thinking, why did I choose to review this game?  Was it because of the many comments? No. The fact that it won a contest?  No. The fact that it got a feature?  Maybe. Truth be told, I had no intention of stumbling upon this game, just looking through some good PPG’s, and this was definitely the best( that didn’t provide too much of a challenge).
 Splatter is a great gamemaker, so I expected a lot from him.

Gameplay
This game was…well, confusing. At first I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing and just focusing on the red part and watching the walkthrough, then after the level 3, I really started to notice.
   
    The game requires you to stay focused on all 4 sides of the screen and each of them are colored in a particular way to distinguish them from the others. The objective of this game, like many others, is to stumble about looking for little coin. But each of the four sides of the screen have hidden hazards, which are visible on only another side of the screen. Let me break it, in the red side of the screen, it could be plain air, but in the blue side, it could be spikes.
   
   So if you stumbled forward, minding the red side only, you would hit an invisible spike, which would have been avoided if you looked into the blue screen. It gives you tons of gameplay to look out for as each of the colored areas look quite simple, but have significant difference from the rest.
   
   Another thing that made the balls like a double-edged sword, was that they were fast and could jump high. While that could be a benefit, it could also be a curse in the sense that if you dodged something in the green area, you could stumble into something in the yellow area and it would be hard for you to turn away from it. The perfect example of this is level 8. I mean…, spikes are everywhere. Hidden ones and visible ones. Hidden and visible turrets are there too. To conclude, the gameplay of the game was fast and required you to use fast thinking to complete each level.

Puzzle
Well, I’m not going to repeat myself with the whole puzzle thing, but the puzzle was unique. Besides the whole hidden enemies stuff, and the speed of the player that affected the gameplay, the time to move, the position in which you move and the move to make was also very puzzling.
 
   You could think you would make the jump immediately the elevator came towards you, but those spikes in the yellow area would be a nuisance, so why not jump longer?  But then the spikes in the blue area would hit you. Why not jump in between them?  Then that would mean you would jump before the elevator gets to the platform. Isn’t that straight out puzzle to you?  And that’s just level 4! This was definitely my favourite, and the most annoying aspect of the game lol


Difficulty
If you’re looking to play a PPG that you can actually enjoy without clicking the retry button more than a calculator could count, then I suggest this game. This game wasn’t too hard. It was quite simple in the first 3 levels, toughening up in level 4 and 5, but becoming drastically easy in the later levels, except level 8 of course -_-
   
    It might take you 4-5 retries on a level if you’re talented, and 15-19 if you’re not. The difficulty was what got you hooked into the game. You might think “I’ll just breeze through, looks simple enough” but oh my you are so wrong. With the above puzzle and gameplay, don’t expect to win the game on your first try.

Scenery
No offence to splatter, but the scenery was a bit boring. It was the same old stuff in each level. The basic platforming stuff. I know scenery isn’t really a much focused part of games like these, but it wouldn’t hurt to throw in a little twist in each level. It’s just blocks and circles, and some custom made spikes.
   
    The scenery might not have added much to the game, and there might not be much to be done on it anyways, but a little addition that would make even the newbs marvel with delight and show your scenery skills.

Placement
What is to say about the placement?  It’s extremely clever, well thought of, and brought a new challenge to the game. You could see a random spike somewhere in the air where you would think only an idiot would stumble against, but in the course of progressing the game, it would be so darn difficult to avoid it that you would click retry so many times. It might not have been so neat, but it added tons of challenge to the game. No random game maker could have placed them in those exact spots.

Extreme levels of difficulty in the final levels

Overall rating: 4/5

Conclusion: When I used a calculator and rounded everything up, I got a 3. 9. But this game deserved more, so I gave it a 4. Overall this was a fun game, better than what I expected from splatter. It made my day, as it got me captivated in it for some hours… Overall it’s a fun game, and worthy enough to earn it’s feature.
