PLAT-BETA TESTING WEEK

All,

I want as many people as possible to bang on the new creator and try out new and old features. If you are working on a game I strongly encourage you to try the new beta.

I am not going to launch this creator fully until I get a critical mass of people who say it is ready for launch. So, if you want this to be launched for EGD, you should help test it out.



Things that need testing.

1. LOAD AND TEST OLD GAMES BUT DO NOT SAVE THEM. ALL OLD GAMES (except the very very old ones from before 2009) will be CONVERTED to the new creator.

2. TEST ALL CHARACTERS with and without graphics. ALL of their artwork has been extensively modified to support graphics. In some rare cases this may also affect their physics behaviors. Please test to make sure they work the same as in the old creator. THIS INCLUDES THE PLAYER.

3. Test the HECK out of applying graphics. Make sure it works and that it is easy to work with and to understand.

4. Test the new graphics editor beta. Make sure it works well with patterns, the new creator and the larger size, too.



You may say to yourself, "Boy that lazy Geoff that's his job!" And partly you are correct. But, there are nearly infinite variations in the ways we use these tools to create games. I can't possibly test all use-cases and game level permutations.

As always, your help is greatly appreciated. And remember, if no one tests it, it will never get launched. I am depending on YOU to test it and let me know if you are confident that it is ready, because YOUR GAMES will be affected.

I tried all; works quite well. I didn't find any bugs. Applying graphics is easy enough, and I didn't see anything flying or acting unusual with the enemies.

I think it's ready for launch.
when i apply character graphic to player, i can only see his head. but if its on an enemy, the whole body comes on...wtf

I think that's intentional.

I am actually encountering a minor problem. Whenever I open up the tile selector box, I can't choose a tile texture. It may just be my computer, but I was encountering no such thing until after the updates. It isn't a huge deal as I've dealt with it back in 2010 (when the box wasn't there), but if it's in your grasp of time, it'll be an honor to look into.

I don't like graphics in the platformer tbh It's becoming a lot similar to the PPG. I like it with just the basic graphics.

I haven't found any bugs nor problems, Everything is working well. I believe that it's ready for launch.

I like the the Ally thing though. I found many more puzzles with it :)

That can't be safe.

I speculate a high chance that graphical modifications may not be the only things for foes.  Perhaps geoff will have us be able to modify the foe properties soon, like being able to give more health to an enemies, change damage amount or change their movement/attack speed. 

One day.

The ally is a nice addition, I find it annoying how non-probe enemies pretend like it doesn't exist.  Especially ranged foes who can hurt it.  Is this intentional?

When I test the game with the platformer creator in this beta form, the player moves faster than it did before. And when i try to jump the player, the jumping response is late. Also when I test the game, the player kind of blurs.

With heavy foes like firetrolls, georges and rockies, the graphic hands get very elongated.

Uh oh.

Well, anyway, I had a puzzle in one of my games where I bat touched a green and orange perma switch.  Before the update, they turned off and on automatically.  Now, the green doesn't seem to turn on, and the orange doesn't turn off.

Very odd! Anyone else experience this?

It may be because you are testing in the creator as opposed to playing on a public page. The game-play is a little choppier in the creator because it has the creator loaded behind it.

I haven't had anything of the sort happen to me.

Earlier before this thread, I made a graphic for this, and I saved it with the pattern. Well... I put it on a ninja and my graphics face was squished. Then... the arms didn't really show up...
