It won't work for weapons and powerups at this stage. I want to be able to release this without going insane. So, for now, just most blocks and walking baddies.
Hmm. So could I create custom designs and sceneries, Like mutant birds, witches, lions, etc.?

Am I the only one who don't like it?
Sorry, but in my opinion, this will make the Platformer game more 8-bitting (or what) itself.

no arguing please

Will there be a different graphic maker for this?

Nope.

For those of you who "don't like it," that's not constructive. If you have ideas on how to make it better, I'm all ears. But, simply posting "I don't like it" adds nothing to the discussion and brings everyone down. So, if you don't have something constructive to offer in this thread, please do not post.

P.S. With regards to the graphic editor, I'll be adding a larger size, 60 x 60px, to enable a higher resolution for character art. This size will not support animation in order to keep game file size manageable.

I think it is good, since you will be able to make youself some unique scenery, bosses and tiles for your game.

My only fear is that it will get overused and people will start building games entirely out of graphics, causing massive lag, and also making it more like the PPG rather than Platformer.

At first I was a bit on the fence, but when you placed the graphic on the player's head.... Avatar heads! I like this idea now, Platformer tributes can be so much better. :D

I have to say I'm indifferent about this. As a person who can't use the graphic creator, this will just make my platformers more bland. But for people who can use it, and for people who have historically made games with great scenery (CoughGrantCough), this will probably be a great, great update.

I think you should create a new graphic creator. I say this because you do not know if the graphics will fit or be compatible with the enemies or blocks.
For example, if you make the graphic too big, only half of it will be shown.

Sorry for my grammar.

Now that's more constructive, thanks.

Yes, I agree it will be a little awkward. I was concerned about it because the platformer is vector graphics and not blocky bitmaps. But, I'm thinking that if you publish the game in 8-bit mode it will blend together better. Plus, I like the look... it's kind of hilarious with those test graphics.

Also, I'll be enabling a higher resolution graphic and a little template overlay to show where the parts go for the "character kit"

Omg Yes! Now I can use my own tiles for my games and not look at a whole list trying to find a similar one.

I don't entirely agree, I tried the PPG and its so confusing for me, to simply choose my graphic and drag it over an enemy, would be heaven compared to the PPG creator. I hope Geoff will further try to incorporate the graphics into Platformer, which I love so much. And I'll be able to add unique things to m new plat. Cursed Bay which would be terrific. I'm all for it, Geoff.

Wow!  That must've been a major pain to code and all that.  Keep up the great work!

Also, I have some questions.

1. Is there an ETA right now?
2. Will this work for enemies, or just blocks?

This.

It's a great update and all, but it will completely suck for anyone who doesn't know how to make graphics.

This is what I wanted to tell with the '8 bitting mode' term.
And also, it would be a little bit strange. People use the platformer creator for mostly puzzling and tricky games where we don't need graphics. (except the RPG's)

I like the idea, but I have some questions and comments.

I like the 8-bit style and "vector style" (to quote you) graphic styles, but the idea of having them together makes me worry of the clash that might arise. Even if published in 8-bit mode, would the differing styles of graphics have much of a noticeable clash? I like that you're adding a 60x60 size to graphics that can be made for improved resolutions and reduced clash even at the expense of animation (which I don't mind; I've probably use this feature for scenery alone anyways), but even with that, if published in 8-bit mode, would there be a noticeable clash of graphic styles?

I honestly think that there will end up being some games where it will clash, and some games where it will work well. It all depends on the talent of the creator.

I think it's worth it just for the ability to create unique games and stories.

Ok. Thank you for your time. Thank you for working on this for us, too. Expanding the creative potential of the users is the goal of Sploder if I'm not mistaken, and this will certainly help.

The ability to make the 8-bit graphics look like HD would be a unique feature.
