A world of Peace, or a world of Chaos?
« on: April 18, 2013, 09:59 pm »
Would you rather live in a world of authoritarian dictatorship where all rights and liberties are excessively restricted (if not prohibited), but as a result, there is no poverty, hunger, war, disease, etc.

OR

A world of anarchy and disorder, but everyone is free from oppression?

Interesting. I can see why people would choose peace to chaos, but I would have issues with the concept of oppression as opposed to freedom. I wouldn't think that an end to societal problems would be enough to justify an end to liberty and freedom. Maybe that's just me, though. But I am curious as to what you guys think.

Total peace would be more like a nightmare...you'd be like cattle, or robots...of course, you wouldn't have the intellect to make that conclusion.
Anarchy, because rational thought would be applied to save the world, I guess.

Anarchy.

The first option reminds me of the society in a book I have to read in English called "The Giver".

I favor a world with government. Not a total-control-over-the-lives-of-citizens government, but more of a government whose main duties are ensure their  citizens have moral rights, e.g. freedom of speech & the press, freedom of religion, etc., as well as providing an economy based on a hybrid market. Basically a government that is in-between total chaos and restriction of almost all rights.

Anarchy.

Problem with both is they wouldn't last forever. Eventually people form alliances in anarchy and some rise to higher power than others. It would turn into a chaotic dictatorship from the highest powered people (like a mob running peasants).

If its an authoritarian like what you mentioned, while not as likely, people can still up-rise as long as they have the right education and willpower. North Korea would be an example of a stagnant one, but they sure as hell aren't happy even if they don't have that willpower.

Anarchy all the way.

But that's not a choice in this topic, lol. It's one extreme vs. another. Both are very flawed and unlikely, but it's a choice between freedom and an end to the ailments of society.

I'm rebelling against the options.
If I have to choose between those two, Anarchy.

Communism doesn't actually exist in the world, and as far as I know, it can't. But it wouldn't be so bad unless you are a have. Then it's not so good.

It's impossible for either to happen. And I can't even see myself choosing one over the other. A society would probably not be able to last over a month under both.

Hm... a very thought provoking question. Like said before, total control government would mean we wouldn't truly live our own life. We would all just go with the flow all day long with to worries or care. With food, safety and law, life wouldn't be that bad.
But the way I see a free world, there would be murder, violence, starvation and no one to control it.

So the question boils down to: Do you want to live out your life in peace but never knowing freedom, or live your life surrounded by anarchy and violence and never knowing peace?

I would prefer to live me life in peace, no matter how dull it would be.
