Does the link in the upper bar work for you? Try that.

If nothing else you could just use the direct link to the friends module, "http://www.sploder.com/friends".

As for the cause of your problem I can only speculate. It's probably just a random, temporary bug in the system. I'm guessing that it'll fix itself in time.
