Amendments to Sploder Law
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:59 pm »
Over time there are many new rules introduced to the forum for the sake of keeping it organized, spam free, and generally safer for everybody to enjoy. However, as time passes and the the announcements of these rules are lost to the temporal trap these rules often become forgotten by everybody, even those who enforce them. So, in order to combat that I will be keeping track of each new rule here in this thread. Each time a new rule is added it shall be archived here in one way or another so we don't forget about it.
The Boogeyman is Coming.

What Happens When People Abuse Their Privileges

Posted By: hkassrulzThey get taken away. There are wayyyyy too many forum advertisement threads. This is not a place for you to advertise and spam. If you want somebody to join your forum send them a PM.

From now on I will be closing all public advertisement threads I see and I encourage Lts+ to do the same.

Posted By: hkassrulzAlso, when you make people join your forums, they may want to use it more frequently than this one. That takes away traffic to this site, and that's exactly what we don't want to happen.

Posted By: whteverAnother thing to note: If your thread about your forum (or any other thread for that matter) disappeared, then that means it was deleted for a violation. I'm campaigning for the LT's + to stop this practice because people need to know why their threads are wrong, but just a heads up.

Please, No More Talking About Promoting People.

Posted By: 10000truths: (Quote coding forgone to preserve original Html coding.) It's been decided that it's enough. You guys are talking waaay too much about promoting people. From now on, any topics pertaining to promoting a specific user will be closed. Why?

It gives false hope.
Lots of privates have been suggested by other privates to become soldiers. You guys don't choose who becomes soldier, so it doesn't affect their chances. Worst of all, it gives them false hope that they will soon become soldier. This will degrade their patience over something they have no knowledge of, and they also lose some humbleness.

There are better things to talk about.
Come on, guys, it's an Internet forum. If we all just kept talking about promotions, the forum would lose value.

We don't care for whining.
Whining about not being a soldier is quite possibly the worst thing you can do to try to get yourself noticed, next to spamming and hacking. It will stoop your chances dangerously low and soldiers+ find it a serious pet peeve. Frankly, when it comes to whining, we don't give a... well, you get the idea.

You can still talk about promotions in general, but you can't directly or indirectly suggest a member to be promoted. Also, I'll spare some of the RPFG's, since they're just ratings. Anything else will be closed.

Posted By: 10000truthsThis also applies to talking about promoting soldiers to lieuts and lieuts to generals.

Posted By: superluigi77This thread and this thread in particular are safe for the time being, if for nothing else sentimental reasons.

Posted By: 10000truthsThis also applies to threads where you discuss who is deserving of what rank.

Let's All Just Remember Something... (Currently in The Bin)

Posted by: YoungcalimanAnd I do want to fuse this temporarily just so we all get the message. The Sploder forum should be a place where we can all spend some free time and enjoy talking to one another. This should not, and I repeat, should not be a drama filled site. Sure, sometimes this drama can be entertaining, we can all agree with that. But we must realize that the age differences on this site range into the double digits, and the maturity level of one person will be different from another person. I keep seeing how some people believe this person is too immature, this person is too pushy, this person is too this, too that. Just remember...it's normal for us to be immature, especially if we are young. If you don't like someone or just don't like the way they act in general, just let it go. Just because they do not have the maturity level that you do does not mean they are a bad person by any means. This may seem like common sense, but I feel as though this should be clarified. There is no need to take this forum too seriously. I could say more, but I have a feeling you wont want to read much more. Just enjoy the forum ;)

Things not to Post in General

(Original threads for these have been lost.)

  • Links to any sploder games or game embeds. These belong in Game Sharing, thus the name. However, you can post hype threads in general containing screenshots of your games as well as textual descriptions of them.

  • Anything that should otherwise be placed in a different category. This should be obvious. Games belong in Game Sharing. Groups and contests belong in their own category. Ideas go into ideas, bugs to bugs, etc, etc. Threads that are in the wrong category will be sunk if not moved.

  • Outfire, Rainfall, or similar shady organizations. Talking about them is meaningless as they are no threat to us, regardless if they exist or not. (Originally posted by Hkassrulz)

  • Sceptile. Nothing personal against him but the mods are tired of dealing with arguments that always seemed to spring up about him. When he comes on to the forum feel free to chat with him in a friendly manner, though.

  • Obviously, no bypassing and no talking of inappropriate subjects in general or any category that can be viewed by privates. This can not be stressed enough. Also, saying things like "da fuq" or "oh shi..." also count as bypassing. Apparently some people failed to understand that.

This really isn't anything new to the rules but it's something that most people don't seem to realize so it needs to be said, and I didn't want to make a whole new thread for it. When somebody bypasses the censor, posts some form of spam or inappropriate material DO NOT quote it. If you quote a bypass then you are considered to be bypassing as well. If you quote spam you are considered to be spamming as well. Think of it this way: We don't want such things to be posted in the first place so why would you want to replicate them in the form of a quote? That just doesn't make sense. If you must quote a comment containing something inappropriate then you can simply edit out the content that shouldn't be replicated and leave the rest, if any.

We are pretty lenient on people who break this rule. Usually the comment is just deleted and that's the end of it. (I like to whisper something to the users whose comments I've deleted about this as a warning to them, but that's not always going to happen.) Since no harm is usually intended a demotion would just be overkill but if you make a habit of breaking this rule and ignoring our warnings about it then a short stint in POW may be in order.

An Important Notice

Posted by: 10000truthsPeople have been recently faking thank-you's that show up on the account page, via HTML trickery. Faking thank-you's destroys the purpose of them, so it is considered HTML abuse. As such, it is punishable by a long sentence in POW. This does not apply only to thank-you's, but also applies to anything else that is considered HTML abuse.

Also very important: you should NEVER, by any means, disclose or reveal any flaw, exploit or bug on the forums to other people. Getting caught doing so, don't be surprised if you get smashed by a banhammer or serve a very long time in POW.

PLEASE Whisper POW/grunt/ban Requests.

Posted By: 10000truthsIt's not a good idea to make a thread in public requesting a specific user to be grunted/POWed/banned. Common sense says that all you're asking for is an argument/flame war when you do that. If you want someone grunted/POWed/banned, please whisper the request. Anonymity is the best course of action.

"Posting photos of other members without their permission is not acceptable. If a member wants a photo of them on the forums they will post it.

Try to remember this."

Arguments about Religion will no longer be tolerated

The Lieutenants and Generals have actually had a lengthy discussion about this. The general conclusion was that such arguments hardly ever result in anything positive and the possible repercussions of them were too great to risk any further. However, intelligent, peaceful discussions about religion will still be allowed. Just be respectful of everybody's beliefs.

Just like on the main site, please don't abuse the emoticons. (smilies) We won't be too strict about this but we will step in if it becomes too much of a problem. :)
